Carrie A. Lee, Director

Carrie A. Lee is an associate professor at the US Army War College, where she serves as the Chair of the Department of National Security and Strategy and co-director of the USAWC Center on Civil-Military Relations. She studies how domestic politics influence military operations, strategy, and foreign policy decision-making. Dr. Lee’s writing has appeared in publications such as Foreign Affairs, War on the RocksArmed Forces and Society, Journal of Conflict Resolution, International Politics, Orbis, and The Washington Post. In addition to her work at the Army War College, Carrie is a contributing editor for War on the Rocks, adjunct fellow with the Center for a New American Security, and term member with the Council on Foreign Relations.  She received her Ph.D. in political science from Stanford University in 2015, and a B.S. from MIT in 2010.

Neil Snyder, Deputy Director

COL Neil Snyder, PhD serves the USAWC in the Department of National Security and Strategy. He commanded at the Brigade level and prior to joining the faculty of the USAWC he served at the Directorate for Strategy, Plans and Policy (J5) at the Joint Staff.  He studies national security politics and his work has been published in Armed Forces and Society, Presidential Studies Quarterly, and War on the Rocks. COL Snyder earned a Bachelors of Science (Biomedical Engineering, Economics) from Duke University, a Master of Science in Defense Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School, a Master of Military Arts and Sciences from the School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS), and a Doctorate of Political Science from Stanford University.
